The New York Indoor Regatta was founded by our late friend and teammate, Ben Lau, whose passion for dragon boating and bringing people together continues to inspire our community. Along with paddlers from several New York City clubs and neighboring states, Ben helped create this event as a way for teams to stay connected during the off-season through friendly competition, camaraderie, and shared experiences.

More than just a race, the Indoor Regatta celebrates the spirit of dragon boating. It is also very beginner- and newbies-friendly, so even people who have never paddled before can come and try it out. Athletes of all skill levels—from first-time paddlers and racers to experienced competitors—come together to challenge themselves, support one another, and strengthen the bonds that make our community so special.

As every dragon boater knows, no race day is complete without a team meal. After the competition, paddlers gather to share food, stories, and laughter, continuing one of the sport's most cherished traditions.

Today, we proudly carry on Ben's legacy by welcoming dragon boat clubs from across New York City and neighboring states to celebrate the joy of paddling, friendship, and community.
